Stefan Wolpe: Enactments. In his long and many-faceted career, German-American composer Stefan Wolpe served as the conduit between the 1920s avant-garde of the Weimar Republic and the 1950s New York School of abstract expressionist composers. Enactments is a Hat Art production that builds a bridge between these two ends of his endeavors, utilizing his works for multi-hand piano and performed by an expert ensemble of keyboardists led by Steffen Schleiermacher, and in the title work, conductor James Avery. Stefan Wolpe 25 August 1902 4 April 1972 was a German composer. He escaped to Vienna separating from his wife and daughter. He married in Vienna in 1927 and again in 1934. Wolpe went to Palestine and moved in 1938 to the USA where he married for a third time. Wolpe was born in Berlin. He attended the Klindworth-Scharwenka Conservatory from the age of fourteen, and the Berlin Hochschule für Musik in 192021.
