Spinners is the third studio album recorded by American R&B group The Spinners, produced by Thom Bell and released in April 1973 on the Atlantic label. The album was the group's first for Atlantic after leaving Motown. Spinners includes their first American top-ten and R&B number-one hit I'll Be Around, along with the successful songs Could It Be I'm Falling in Love, One of a Kind Love Affair, Ghetto Child, and How Could I Let You Get Away. There have been at least three groups called The Spinners: 1. a soul group, 2. a 1960s folk group and 3. a Turkish female punk band. A soul group of the early '70s, creating a body of work that defined the lush, seductive sound of Philly soul. In the UK they were known as The Detroit Spinners to avoid confusion with British band The Spinners. The band's roots lay in Detroit, where they formed as a doo wop group during the late '50s. The Spinners lost lead singer Philippe Wynne in 1977, as he left to join ParliamentFunkadelic. While they were getting replacement John Edwards acclimated, Atlantic issued this greatest-hits LP containing all the gems with Wynne as their lead singer. Until the Atlantic two-CD set was issued, this was a definitive work, and it's still as complete a single album package as is available.
