Live Undead is the first live album by American thrash metal band Slayer. It was released through Metal Blade Records and recorded in New York City in front of a room of people. It has been questioned by both critics and authors that the audience sound may or may not be faked. However, in 1984, WBAB Fingers Metal Shop, a radio station, held a contest to meet and hang out with Slayer during a live recording. The album was recorded at Tiki Recording Studios in Glen Cove, NY in front of around a dozen. Recorded live in a New York City Studio in front of 50 metal maniacs personally invited by the band, the first seven songs on this collection capture the bands awe-inspiring onslaught. In the few months since recording Show No Mercy, Slayer had already refined its attack. The bands barbaric blitz is punctuated by the guitar of Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, whose leads on Evil Has No Boundaries and Show No Mercy are even more unhinged than the already-impressive studio versions. Recorded and released as a follow-up to the Haunting the Chapel EP, specifically during the tour for that effort though apparently actually in a studio with a few hypercharged fans in audible attendance, Live Undead shows the band still coming together in ways. Hell Awaits was around the corner and Reign in Blood further off yet, so the set relies on their earliest material, sometimes striking but formative nonetheless
