Palo Santo is Shearwater's fourth full-length album, released on May 9, 2006, on Misra Records. Jonathan Meiburg stated in Shearwater's January 15, 2011, performance at Austin's Central Presbyterian Church a concert recorded for the band's live album The Island Arc, that the album is about Nico, the German singer who became famous with the Velvet.
