A Handful of Beauty is a world fusion music album recording by SHAKTI, REMEMBER SHAKTI released in 1977 on CD, LPVinyl andor cassette. The intensity that the musicians of the band deliver is absolutely incredible to say the least. The beauty of this band is that not only is this an East meets West affair but it is also a Northern India meets Southern India one as well. Of the three original Shakti albums, Handful of Beauty features the best playing from McLaughlin. Somber does not mean boring. The two master Indian percussionists Zakir Hussain and T. Vinayakaram provide the rhythm and much of the dynamic. The incomparable L. Shankar helps provide the mood. It is too bad he and McLaughlin no longer seem to be friends in real life. As was later to be the case on the group's Natural Elements, one of the highlights of the two Shakti studio recorded efforts is the high quality of sound engineering. The jazz musicians are excellent, but I would not write this off as a fusion album. I don't like the majority of jazz fusion music, I generally find it thin at best, and cheesy more often than not.
