Sea Level recorded their fourth album for Capricorn on the cusp of the label's 1979 bankruptcy, and Long Walk on a Short Pier only earned a brief release before finally being issued more widely in 1998 by a resurrected Capricorn, with distribution through MercuryPolygram. The album continues down the path of the band's third album, 1978's On the Edge, caught up in a disco-fied era and trying a little bit of this, a little bit of that, hoping that something might catch fire. Long Walk on a Short Pier. 5 out of 5 stars 3. Keyboardist Chuck Leavell organized Sea Level as a quartet in 1976 after the Allman Brothers Bands first breakup of their post Duane Allman era. Sea Levels bassist Lamar Williams and percussionistdrummer Jaimoe were also Brothers giving Leavells band a somewhat similar ABB sound. The self-titled Sea Level debut album concludes with Leavells stutter and stop instrumental Just a Good Feeling, which is fun way to conclude their inauguration. Real Gone Music had previously released as two LPs on one CD Sea Levels second and third album Cats on the Coast, and On the Edge. Short Walk On A Long Pier is the first spoken word album released by Henry Rollins. The content is culled from spoken word performances in Los Angeles, San Diego, Baton Rouge, Denver, New York City and Amsterdam. The one piece of music, Alienation, is performed with Rowland S. Howard of The Birthday Party and Chris Haskett. Originally, the album was a limited cassette only release of 1000, but it was re-released at least twice.
