I rebuilt it with modern components & improved the SN by 5db, thus beating any C22. The amp is of my own design, -just a solid , overbuilt push-pull class AB EL34 circuit. These albums by the Southland Stingers inspired me, as a callow lad of 10 yrs old in the 70's, to take-up ragtime piano I learned about a dozen my best being Maple Leaf Rag, and some of which were here. As if to emphasize that point, EMI has filled this album with six other arrangements, performed by pianist Ralph Grierson with the Southland Stingers, conducted by George Sponhaltz. While these are still in the same vein as Hamlisch's work, one wishes the beautiful waltz Bethena had been spared the palm court treatment and presented instead in its solo piano version.
