Masterjam is the platinum-selling eighth studio album by funk band Rufus and their fifth album with singer Chaka Khan, their debut on the MCA Records label following their purchase and dissolution of ABC Records, released in 1979. Produced by Quincy Jones, Masterjam was the band's fourth album to top Billboard's R&B Albums chart, and also reached number 14 on thePop chart. The album includes the singles Do You Love What You Feel, their fourth 1 hit on the R&B Singles chart and also 30 on Pop. album Masterjam. MCA Records. by misummergrooves. Rufus & Chaka Khan What Am I finds them back together, renamed Rufus and Chaka, with Quincy Jones producing the effort. Khan had worked with Jones on his 1978 album, Stuff Like That. The most striking thing about Masterjam is that is doesn't sound like a trademark Rufus effort. Jones' production style is so strong that the band's individual sound is all but lost. It's nothing to cry about, since Jones was at his R&Bpop peak and Rufus couldn't do it any better on their own. The album's first track is Do What You Love What You Feel, with its subtle horn r. Even with the monster jams "Do You Love What You Feel" and "Any Love", this is a very lackluster effort by Rufus. I blame this on several factors: One, Chaka Khan was doing very well in her solo career, and being recongnized for it(as well she should). Two: Members of the band were coming and going, and Three: instead of the group producing their own material, Producer Extrodinare, Quincy Jones had that job. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't blame it totally on "Q", I just feel that beyond maybe 4 songs, it just doesn't mesh well. I guess that's what happens when there are changes in a group constantly, and for Rufus, it took it's toll. Still, it's an ok set.

Very good and nice album. This album tastes like more. I got a hold of a copy in 1984. Really liked it. For me "Any Love" stands out. Mellow song with a strong vocal string on it. Very groovy & mellow yet powerfull.
Also "Do You Love What You Feel" is worth listening to. Very groovy and strong album.
