Photo: CoV Archives, LGN 692. In an old warehouse store on Cordova Street in 1898, John A. Schuberg introduced the motion pictures to Vancouver. Four years later, Schuberg, known professionally as Johnny Nash, opened the Edison Electric Theatre on the same street. It was Canadas first movie theatre. Swedish-born Schuberg 1874-1953 immigrated to Minnesota with his parents as a young child. The Pacific Cinematheque Monograph Series was initiated to explore the spectrum of contributions and innovations of Western Canadian filmmakers, videomakers, and fringe media artists.
