Montrose is the debut album by the American hard rock band Montrose released in 1973 on the Warner Bros. It was produced by Ted Templeman. The album marks the recording debut of vocalist Sammy Hagar, who would later achieve international success as a solo artist and member of Van Halen. After having done session work for various musicians including Van Morrison, Herbie Hancock and Edgar Winter, Montrose was Ronnie Montrose's first record leading his own band which featured Denny Carmassi on. Guitarist Ronnie Montrose began his career as a backing musician, playing with Van Morrison, Boz Scaggs, and Edgar Winter. He finally formed his own band in 1973. After they broke up in 1982, Montrose picked his solo career once again. He released a rather low-key album, Territory, in 1983, following it four years later in 1987 with the hard-rocking and impressive Mean attributing it to Gamma. The Speed of Sound appeared in 1988, with The Diva Station, a semi-instrumental mesh of soul, pop, metal, and jazz, arriving in 1990. Ronald Douglas Montrose November 29, 1947 March 3, 2012 was an American rock guitarist, who led the bands Montrose 1973-77 & 1987 and Gamma 1979-83 & 2000 and also performed and did session work with a variety of musicians, including Van Morrison 197172, Herbie Hancock 1971, Beaver & Krause 1971, Boz Scaggs 1971, Edgar Winter 1972 & 1996, Gary Wright 1975, The Beau Brummels 1975, Dan Hartman 1976, Tony Williams 1978, The Neville Brothers 1987, Marc Bonilla 1991 & 1993.
