Qkumba Zoo was a South African dance music trio from Johannesburg, South Africa, consisting of vocalist Levannah, dancersculptor Tziki and musicianproducer Owl. The band was originally formed by Owl and Levannah as a duo called Ocean Road. On 11 March 2013, it was announced that Qkumba Zoo was officially a side project, and Owl joined with Simone to create Owl and Simone. Qkumba Zoo left Arista in favour of their own independant label and emerged in the year 2000 with a new album, Butterfly Peepl. The band's name, too was shorted again to QZoo. Although the album revealed matured songcrafting skills, it went by almost unnoticed and the band disappeared off the stage. In 2001, Levannah and Owl briefly re-appeared under the new name Innaskinz, joined by a female bassist called Cajun, and they've also been spotted as QZoo with their interpretation of O Holy Night on the 2002 Christmas compilation 5fm presents: The Santa Sess. Their first album, Wake Up & Dream, was a unique break into the music scene in 1996, featuring 11 tracks of feel-good dance music. read more. Qkumba Zoo has a new song. Recorded during Covid 19 lockdown this version was produced as a sign of the times with Owl working on the production and mix from home and Levannah recording her vocals into a phone via a video mic, also at home. When lockdown is over and we can get into the studio we will re-record the vocals and prepare the song for its official release. This is fan-only release of the production mix of a new Qkumba Zoo track for the time of Covid 19. When it came time to record our second album in the late nineties, early aughts our relationship with our local record was not great so we werent that keen to hang around their studios much.
