It was released in 1995 at the height of Britpop, and led to the band being regarded as part of that movement. It was released in 1995, at the peak of the Britpop movement, and transformed them into an essential part of the British musical scene. This record received a stellar reception from critics, and it has grown to be recognised not only as one of the most iconic albums of Britpop, but as one of the best albums ever released. Different Class was awarded the Mercury Music Prize in 1996. The album has a sleeve note which explains the title rather well : Please understand we dont want no trouble. By the time Different Class was released at the end of October 1995, the band, particularly lead singer Jarvis Cocker, were genuine British superstars, with two number two singles and a triumphant last-minute performance at Glastonbury under their belts, as well as one tabloid scandal. On the heels of such excitement, anticipation for Different Class ran high, and not only does it deliver, it blows away all their previous albums, including the fine His 'n' Hers. Album 1995 12 Songs. After 18 years of waiting, Pulp were finally in the right place at the right time when they released Different Class. The motorik-disco class fable Common People is probably the greatest U. 2 single since Strawberry Fields Forever. And yet the album fulfilled all the promise of that hit-a consistently strong LP where losers are draped in victory flags Mis-Shapes, Disco 2000 and Jarvis Cockers lyrics pull back the yellowing curtains of suburban Britain. Different Class Pulp. On 1995's Different Class, Pulp and Jarvis Cocker were arty outsiders worming their way into the lives of ordinary folk, and they became pop in its most democratically widespread sense. The first time I heard Pulps Common People was at my brothers wedding reception in the tiny English town of Tring. Genre: Britpop. Full Review. Best of 1995. Worst of 1995. Suggest Blurb.
