The Flowers of Romance is the third studio album by English experimental rock band Public Image Ltd, released on 10 April 1981 by record label Virgin. The first studio album recorded following the departure of founding bassist Jah Wobble, The Flowers of Romance found PiL delving further into an experimental sound. First to go was bassist Jah Wobble. Rather than find a substitute for Wobble, the band soldiered on with drummer Martin Atkins banging his way to immortality. The result is a weirdly sparse album of odd keyboard and guitar parts, antsy rhythms and singer John Lydon formerly the Sex Pistols Johnny Rotten railing in his most strident tones against everything around him. With bassist Jah Wobble long gone from the band, and drummer Martin Atkins splitting his time between PiL and another band, Brian Brain, drums and percussion became the primary pulse of PiLs music, replacing Wobbles trademark reggae-influenced bass of the first two albums.
