Mario Ciccioli: Aeolian Sculpture

Recorded at Tuxedo Studio (Piacenza, Italy) by Pier Luigi Andreoni
Mixed at Computer Studio (Milano, Italy) by Riccardo Sinigaglia
Produced by Special Thanks to Simona Luzi

The work is the result of a casual meeting between plastic art (sculpture) and music (doubling music).
In June 1988 during the festival “Time Zones-sulla via delle musiche possibili”, Mario Ciccioli exposed his aeolic scuptures that when blow by wind, produce sounds.
Emiliano Li Castro has recorded adn mixed these natural sounds and Pier Luigi Andreoni and Francesco Paladino used them as a sort of basic atmosphere for their work which was recorded in July 1988 at Andreoni’s Tuxedo Studio and Mixed in Feb 1989 at Riccardo Sinigaglia’s Computer Studio.
In Aeolyca Part II the solo instruments is from a Turkish popular theme.

Aeolyca part II Wriggling away from any clear classification, as 80s Italian new music was wont to do, yet clearly drawing on a number of traditions and procedures, Andreoni and Paladinos AEOLYCA project stands on its own as it intersects the two musicians already well established partnership in . and The Doubling Riders among other settings with the sounds generated by Mario Cicciolis aeolian sculptures. 5 tracks 35:27. A concept album like this could be rather cringeworthy, but Nicola Alesini and Pier Luigi Andreoni seem to have enough taste to avoid the cheesiness that have plagued such releases. Violet Glass Oracle Tapes. VGO 005. It encounters the two composers - Pier Luigi Andreoni and Francesco Paladino, interacting with the sounds of an Aeolian Sculpture - a wind harp, created by the artist Mario Ciccioli. Aeolyca is an absolutely stunning piece of work - the drifting, unpredictable, acoustic ambiences generated by Cicciolis Aeolian harp, threaded by the wondrous structures and interventions emerging from Andreoni and Paladinos Roland S 50 and Yamaha tX 81 Z synthesizers. The result is a perfectly balanced tapestry of tone, a pulsing world, punctuated by subtle rhythmic elements, which feels startlingly organic - a form of sonic alien, which only belongs on planet earth.
