A tribute to the late Phyllis Hyman as part of one of my favorite singles. Her voice will live in our hearts forever. Gone too always in My Lifetime is the third studio album by singer Phyllis Hyman. It was released by Arista Records in 1978, becoming Hyman's debut Arista release see 1978 in music. Six of the tracks were first used on her previous album on Buddah, with three tracks produced by Theodore Life and the title track, co-produced and arranged by Barry Manilow, added for the Arista release. The album was reissued on CD in 2008 through BMG Special Products the release features two bonus tracks. Phyllis Hyman. Somewhere in My Lifetime. Somewhere in My Lifetime, Phyllis Hyman's second album but her first for Arista, is similar to many of her efforts: a great singer, but too many so-so songs. The album starts off with a cover of Exile's discopop hit, Kiss You All Over despite her best attempts, the horrible lyrics and the song's origins make this a waste of precious studio time. The lachrymose title-track ballad, produced by Barry Manilow and Ron Dante, finds Hyman's voice poorly recorded and placed into a schmaltzy arrangement. Well considering you deleted your original rant (after i answered below). Why don't you buy the CD and listen for yourself.

the question is simple. Is the remaster good or not?

To answer your question why (vintage) cd's with less tracks appear to be more expensive than later reissues with more tracks. The price differential has little to do with how many bonus tracks that can be squeezed onto the cd, but often the quality of the package. I consider this and a majority of recent reissues, as low budget digital (because they sound no different to those horrible mp3's) reissues, sourced from vinyl or 'remastered' from other compact discs recordings and not as often claimed, from original masters. I can't see a copyright holder authorising the use of fragile original master tapes, to reissue companies at the rate reissues (often of same albums) are appearing nowadays, they instead will send a cd or email a digital file of the recording. I have personally seen a few correctly licensed reissues, where the reissue label has sourced the audio from vintage cd's purchased from me (often vintage Japanese reissues). In addition to this 'expanded' packages with bonus 12" or promo unreleased songs are often sourced from vinyl. Licensing songs from copyright holders just give you permission to use a recording, it doesn't give you access to the masters. You pay big money for that.... Whilst the extra tracks can be a welcome bonus (unless they are pointless 7" edits as the trend has been recently), they are just sweeteners to get people who already own better quality earlier reissues to part with more money. It's pretty much a scam if you ask me. However you can't really go wrong with Rhino, Wounded Bird or Reel Music reisues especially during the 00's although nowadays they are very quiet. I don't really buy european reissue's nowadays (those reissue labels tend to be the worst offenders for poor quality reissues) unless it's released directly by the record company who holds the sound copyright & masters.
