In December 1971, Patto entered the studio again to record their second album Hold Your Fire after which they were dropped from the Vertigo roster. Despite poor record sales, they were becoming known as an exciting live act. Through his connections in England Muff Winwood was able to have the band signed to Island, and they recorded the album Roll 'em Smoke 'em Put Another Line Out in 1972. In 1973, the band began to record their fourth album. 1972 Roll em Smoke em Put Another Line Out. 1995 Monkey's Bum recorded 1973 but no authorised release until 2017. Live albums. Type Album. By the time Patto started recording Monkeys Bum , singer Mike Patto had started penning his own songs opting to take the band into a more commercial direction a move that was backed by John Halsey. With an album to complete, the band drafted in saxophonist Mel Collins to fill in the gaps left by Halsalls departure on the songs. Island deemed that Patto without Halsall wasnt a great idea and decided against releasing the LP, a crying shame as Monkeys Bum is a great record that turns out be the bands most accessible piece of work
