Bernard Parmegiani 1927 - 2013 was a French composer of musique concrete who trained 1959 under Pierre Schaeffer. Raised amidst two pianos, Bernard Parmegiani grew up under the Sign of Sound, listening to the everyday scales practised by his mother, a teacher, and to the virtuoso repertoire of his step-father. De Natura Sonorum 1975 is one of his most famous and best pieces, and not just because of its title, which seems to summarize everything that electro-acoustic music is about. It displays a brilliant sonic imagination, an invention of sounds that is always attention-arousing, and there seems to be an inner logic to the unfolding of its twelve movements that goes way beyond the mere catalog of effects.
