It was around this time that he began DJing with a few different Hip Hop bands and also started to produce his first tracks for them. As raves became larger and more popular in the early 90s, Pepe discovered Techno and House music. His first two records were released on BPM Records under the 'Trankilou' moniker with Ark and Doobass, before he changed his name to Pepe Bradock. His musical influences range from Jazz t read more. Life is a timeless track, first time i heard it was at Rex Club in 2000, of course played by LG... This is not a typical banging club track as the kick is rather soft, but that bassline and chords... this one and the track "4" from are my fav pepe prod not to forget "What We Need (Pépé Bradock's Brad Peep Rmx)".
For me, "Life" is better than "Deep burnt".More elements, not feelings only on the strings.
agreed. Life is the #1 (not that there has to be one, but you know...) :)
interactive man
I need a cover sleeve, if anybody has one let me know.
A bit late, but a cover sleeve is on sale now by mazegogroove.
Life is one of Pepe's best tracks. Find this one if you can.
Probably, if not the best release by Pépé Bradock. It's got it all. Carl Craig style deep techno journey on the A side and fantastic Theo Parrish-esque beats on the flip.Timeless stuff, highly recommended!
why did you only rate it one star then ?
Ghost is the sleeper from Pepe's overall backcat IMO
Could not agree more with this statement. Absolutely slow burning and moving.
Ghost is sooooo under rated. A very moving track.Ultra nerdy but: there's a break down at about 4.50 (on Life) where there's no percussion just synths. I love dropping it down from 45 to 33 rpm for this section and then when the beats kicks in at 4.57 BOOM back to 45.....I'll get my coat.
shazer This is exactly the kind of comment I expect in discogs. More of this sort of thing! Totally agree.Browsing Discogs on the commute to work is always more enjoyable with comments like that.Bravo.
OK to make clear the YT video linked to Life now (as of 8/10/17) the precussionless break down starts at 5:01. At exactly this moment you drop it from 45 to 33rpm. The break lasts 8 seconds, so on exactly 5:09, you go back to 45rpm. Alternatively stop listening to my ramblings; I'd suggest getting out the house, take a walk. Fill out an an online dating profile. Maybe get a girlfriend. Do something constructive with your lives :)
I don't understand this comment. I swear Ghost is both pressed at 33 and doesn't have the little breakdown you're talking about?
This is exactly the kind of comment I expect in discogs. More of this sort of thing!
hey, do you use the iphone countdown or a normal watch to measure the time?
Ghost is sublime, pure diamond music
Life was a great song, definitely stands out along with Lara and Deep Burnt from this '97-'00 era.
Pepe Bradock gotta b the best French producer since the 70s !!... The man has kept a low profile for more than a decade, doing his records the way he wants them : deep, subtle, subdued but extra dubby, hypnotic and always innovative.. Go Pepe !!! let's not even mention his experimentations, teasers like "Rhapsody in Pain" built around screaming, tortured, anxiety inducing "pain samples" ... who the hell got the balls to press music like that ? Apparently a Parisian called Monsier J.Auger :)
Philippe Zdar???? Ahahahahha... Phew, that was funny.
title of best french producer is quite debatable. I think Philippe Zdar would challenge him for that title.
Life contains a sample of "Purple Rain" by Prince from the violin reprise at the end of the LP version of the track. Really simple loop but beautifully delivered and totally mesmerising!
