Anyone else notice the quality of this deteriorates around halfway through? Sounds like someone's clicked the kill button (although rather subtlety) on the treble. Really can't believe it was put out like this tbh but it hasn't stopped anyone playing it, & I've certainly never heard anyone else complain. You can always tell if someone's playing this press though because of that defect.. Have another listen, if you didn't notice before you will now

I'm talking about Valley of shadows BTW, was never that keen on the flip side for some reason.. Suppose it seems like an early version of Quest which is a favourite of mine and simply doesn't match up

TUUUUUUUUUUUUUNE!!!! this track has been on every jungle/d&b mix throughout the years. it's a badge of honor to drop it, knowing everyone knows this tune. famously caned by andy c & dj hype. Valley of the Shadows, a.k.a. 31 seconds, was created by a very young Andy C. the era was in transition from fast darcore breaks, to dark jungle. whereas most jungle had some semblence of reggae/dancehall samples, this was straight up drum & bass. angelic xylophone-style chords/bells, ring upwards for the intro. the historic flight of Apollo, with a countdown warning of "31 seconds" rings out, then the rolling bassline drops with a downward wash. another memorable vocal sample exclaims, "I felt i was in this long dark tunnel..." which people not in the know, mention, to trainspot the tune. *the long dark tunnel" tune, you know the one. the flip is actually my fave..."Truly One." being one of the first tunes to intro a 2-step break, it is a deep, minimal d&b tune. utilizing the sample of Neil Armstrong's speech after the lunar landing...."For one priceless moment, in all history of man, all people on Earth are truly one." a bold sample of unity, which rang true during the 90's rave scene high-point. the wobbly bassline makes you feel you're floating through space. the second verse features an uplifting synth-line underlying the speech sample.

Have to admit I saw this and thought "oh no not another repress" but the great thing about this is the fact that both tracks have been pressed at 170 bpm meaning they can be mixed with newer releases. Two of the biggest dnb tracks ever released on 1 plate. This very much while picking up.
