Review by Timothy Monger After forming in 2008, British dream pop trio Orange Yellow Red were reticent to rush into their first album. The group found some early success when their very first demo was included on an influential compilation hailing the new wave of shoegaze, but following a few initial gigs supporting like-minded acts such as SPC-ECO and Ulrich Schnauss, they felt they just weren't quite ready to make a go of it and instead devoted their time to creating a solid. Our debut album A Rose Made Of Galaxies is out on 191113 on Saint Marie Records Order Yellow Red take their name from a similarly-titled painting by Mark Rothko. Like the feeling of experiencing one of Rothkos Colourfield canvases, listening to OYR is a very immersive experience. From the onset, the combination of shimmering and chiming guitars comprise the Soundfield on which most of this album is constructed. This is a relatively minor criticism as this really IS a beautiful album and a solid building block for this bands future. Orange Yellow Red came into existence with the demo of the track All The Hopes. Sounding almost like a more concise Cocteau Twins, being produced by Brian Wilson, its every inch the classic, 3 minute pop single. The track was immediately picked up by Invada Records run by Geoff Barrow of Portishead and was released on as well as inspired the labels 2008 compilation The Secret Garden Vol. All The Hopes really was the first song we wrote, so the instant positive reaction really took us by surprise.
