Obnox is a veteran of the 90s Ohio punkgarage rock scene he played in the bluespunk outfit the Bassholes and later, Puffy Areolas. Fearsome instruments ruled the Rust Belt. Thomas appreciation for blues, Art Blakey, and Detroit soul sets his particular breed of soulpunk apart. His control is consistent throughout Enterprise, notably on the Cheater Slicks cover, Ghost. Heavy feedback is needled by electric guitar. Though Obnox is essentially a solo project, Thomas has often included guest contributions, drawing on the many musicians hes encountered in Ohio over the years. My guitar leads are more rhythmical accents- theres not too much melody when I play a lead, he explains. So Ill bring in someone like Bill Weita from Fuzzhead- hes a genius- and the whole thing will take off. The influence of those experiences has lasted- Obnox records have frequently included gospel covers. Just as big an impression was made by punk rock, which Thomas discovered in high school, hanging out with skateboarding pals and eventually playing in a band. 12XU Item No: 323579.
