"This is a true stereo recording of the exciting 1976 Whitsun Big Go Drag Race Meeting organized by the British Drag Racing and Hot Rod Association at Santa Pod Raceway in England. It features the sounds of some of Europe's most powerful machines. Machines designed and built solely for the acceleration contest over the standing start quarter mile that is known as drag racing. We have used sounds recorded at the other end of the drag strip, with cars roaring past at 200 m.p.h.

The voices of strip commentators Brian Taylor and Keith Lee can be heard describing the action over the P.A. system, as it happens. The tapes were then edited by Brain Taylor and a linking narration was added to keep you fully informed as to what is happening.

Most of the different classes of drag racing machinery are represented. They include Dragsters, Funny Cars, Competition Altereds and Pro Stocks as well as Competition Motorcycles and Pro Street Bikes.

We have tried to keep the talking down to 'a minimum' so that you can sit back and enjoy the superb sounds of engines developing up to 2000 b.h.p. Engines up to 8 litres in capacity. Some fuel injected, some supercharged, some using the very potent nitro methane fuel, all in their efforts to be the first to the other end of a quarter mile drag strip. The top classes can cover this distance in under 6 1/2 seconds with terminal speeds of well over 200 m.p.h. We hope your play back equipment can take the sounds, and your brain can take the contortions resulting from the channel transfers. It's cheer unadultered power for powers sake. Enjoy it and come racing."
