Black Flower was the final album under the Nirvana name to feature the duo of Patrick Campbell Lyons and Alex Spyropoulos, who had recorded two classic albums for Island Records in 1967 and 1968 The Story of Simon Simopath and All of Us. Black Flower was begun with the intention of being Nirvana's third album release for Island, but Island founder Chris Blackwell declined to release the project, returning the master tapes and rights to Campbell Lyons and Spyropoulos.
