Live at the Fillmore East is a live album by Neil Young and Crazy Horse featuring guitarist Danny Whitten, released in 2006. In February and March 1970, Young and Crazy Horse went on tour to support Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere 1969. Live at the Fillmore East features performances from the tour. I've loved Neil Young's second solo album, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere 1969 for nearly three decades, so to find this, with mind-blowing live versions of the best songs, with the original line up, with Danny Whitten before he . as for sound quality, pretty damn good, better than most live albums recorded since. Ironically, given Crazy Horse's oft-documented lack of technical ability, these 1970 shows took place at the time in rock history when improvisation was prized almost to the point of being a requirement. Live at the Fillmore East, the debut release from the Neil Young Archives Performance Series, is a surprisingly sparse six-track release culled from recordings made on March 6th and 7th, 1970 at New Yorks famed Fillmore East Auditorium. Opening with a soaring rendition of Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, theres no question that Young and Crazy Horse are in their prime. But with two consecutive shows taped at the Fillmore East, one cant help but think that this album could have easily been a two-disc release. At only 43 minutes, it feels more like a sampler than a complete show-especially with some obvious fading between tracks. For Neil Young freaks, this is an overdue, unconscionably abbreviated version of a two-night stand at the Fillmore East that has long been legend. The verdict For anyone who enjoys good music, this is a no brainer that comes heartily recommended, period.
