Neil Campbell born 19 May 1966 is a British musician, notable for his vast catalogue and his many collaborations. In 2005, The Wire declared that he, Richard Youngs and Matthew Bower had provided the map co-ordinates for much of what passed for a post-punk UK underground during most of the 80s and 90s. Campbell was born in Scotland. He began making music in 1979 using whatever came to hand, having already developed a firm belief in improvisation, and that virtuosity would negatively impact upon. THE NEIL CAMPBELL COLLECTIVE hails from LiverpoolUK and is headed by composer and multi-instrumentalist Neil Campbell. He started to pick up instruments at around the age of four and followed a number of seemingly divergent musical paths over the years - always maintaining an expanding interest in music that doesn't fit easily into pigeonholes such as rock, folk, jazz etc. The band's second album 'Particle Theory', released in early 2008, features an eclectic range of musical styles, sonic diversions and a wealth of guest musicians. Campbell interpreted this Foo Fighters anthem, off Dave Grohl and co. s 2002 album One by One, for his 2008 LP of covers, Meet Glen Campbell. But while the Foos original is powered by a breakneck guitar riff, Campbell and producers Julian Raymond and Howard Willing opt for sweeping strings, resulting in something that could have been cut during Campbells Countrypolitan days. On the 2008 LP Meet Glen Campbell, the singer used the songs of Tom Petty, U2, Lou Reed and others to introduce himself to a new generation of fans. One of the songs on that record, Sadly Beautiful was penned by Paul Westerberg, lead singer of alt-rock band the Replacements. Glen Campbells new album - his true farewell record, despite an earlier recording that was billed as such - is Adios, a collection of songs he secretly recorded shortly after his final tour came to a close at the end of 2012. It opens with his version of a song its hard to believe he never recorded before: Everybodys Talkin, the Fred Neil tune made into a smash hit by Nilsson in the early 1970s.
