The Divertimento in E major, K. 563, is a string trio, written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1788, the year in which he completed his last three symphonies and his Coronation Piano Concerto. It is widely regarded as separate from his other divertimenti. The work was completed in Vienna on September 27, 1788, and is dedicated to Michael Puchberg, a fellow Freemason, who lent money to Mozart. The premiere was in Dresden on April 13, 1789, with Anton Teyber taking the violin part, Mozart playing viola. Franco Gulli, violin, Bruno Giuranna, viola, and Giacinto Caramia, 'cello Trio Italiano d'Archi play Divertimento in E-flat Major, K. 563 1788, for fiolin, bratsj & cello i Ess-dur Trío para violín, viola y violonchelo KV 563 Divertimento para trio de cuerda Trio for Violin, Viola and Cello Divertimento in E flat, K. Divertimento in this case was indeed Mozart's own title, entered into his workbook in 27 September 1788. This was not always the case with works of his now called Divertimenti, the title sometimes being later added by others. There must be poor performances of Mozart's Divertimento for string trio in E flat major, K. 563, and Schubert's String Trio in B flat major, D. 581, on record, but they are hard to come by given that the works themselves are so lovely that they seem to attract only first-rate music-making.
