Legacy of Brutality is a compilation album of early songs by the American punk rock band The Misfits, released in September 1985. The album contains overdubbed mixes of previously unreleased songs, mainly from the JanuaryFebruary 1978 Static Age sessions. So little care was taken of The Misfits' legacy during their original 1977-1983 run that the albums that do sum up the group's career are a mess of odd choices, remixes, and re-recordings. Many songs here are alleged to have parts re-recorded by Danzig. Heck, Who Killed Marilyn was a Danzig solo record. Production and performances, however, were never what The Misfits were about. Their raw, messy sound was part of their appeal and a main reason why punk rock of their era is considered superior to the latter-day stuff where professional studios tidy up the rough edges. The Misfits is a boxed set of material by the horror punk band the Misfits, released in 1996 by Caroline Records. Packaged in a coffin-shaped, velvet-lined box, the set includes four compact discs covering most of the band's recorded material from the years when Glenn Danzig was their singer and songwriter. It also includes a Fiend Club pin and a booklet containing photographs, song lyrics, a discography, and a history of the band written by their photographer and associate Eerie Von. The exterior. Legacy of Brutality is a compilation album released 2 years after the Misfits breakup in 1983. It covers the groups early material, before their first album Walk Among Us and the addition of guitarist Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein. Static Age was recorded first but was not released until 1997. Glenn Danzig provides overdubbed guitar and bass parts on almost all of the songs, rumored to have been done to avoid paying royalties.
