Minus the Bear might not be a band one thinks of when it comes to remixes, but on Interpretaciones del Oso a slew of acts have their way with the act's songs, sometimes to striking effect. That said, there's often little sense that the mixers have moved much beyond a previous decade's idea of what such reworkings can be like, though this can be both positive and negative. Interpretaciones del Oso, an album of remixed songs from their second full-length album Menos el Oso, was released on February 20, 2007, by Suicide Squeeze Records. The band's third full-length album, Planet of Ice, was released on August 21, 2007, by Suicide Squeeze Records and contains ten tracks. On July 10, 2013, Minus the Bear announced that they would release Acoustics II, a ten-track LP with eight acoustic versions of old songs and two new tracks. Just when it seems that the concept of an indie-rock-oriented act having more experimental, electronic and hip-hop contemporaries remix their material is as played out as it possibly can be, the Seattle-based Minus the Bear flips the script with Interpretaciones del Oso. From the ambient, washed-out, rap-singing approach of Fog to Plan B's beat-driven apocalypse, this is the increasingly rare remix record that stands on its own as a lovely bit of collaboration. The award for standout track goes to O, Hunter's remarkable and beautifully layered remix of The Pig War. The lyrics, about it far surpassed my expectations, and naturally I didn't build up an album of remixes too much because there was simply no way such a disc could surpass the original. IMO it's one of the albums I have been able to listen to over and over again. It is very experimental and therefor like other experimental music i think it's really hit and miss but if you like electro-pop or digital music this album is amazing
