The group was formed in 1981 by lead singer and multi-instrumentalist Al Jourgensen, with drummer Stephen George being the most notable member of its initial lineup. However, there are several reports of Jourgensen saying in the eighties how he discovered hardcore punk, which changed his musical direction, and became ashamed of putting out the album.
