The Power of Failing is the first studio album from the Austin, Texas-based emo band Mineral. Released on January 28, 1997, The Power of Failing was made available on both LP and CD format and has since been acclaimed as an essential album from the 90s emo movement. The Power of Failing received extreme praise for its songwriting and honest lyrics. Conversely, EndSerenading, which they recorded with producer Mark Trombino Blink-182, Jimmy Eat World, felt, at times, like a lukewarm new beginning. They were supposed to do a third album for Interscope, but, of course, it never happened. Which, honestly, is probably for the best. When I listened to the Power of Failing in real time back then, it was often on a cassette that I'd dubbed from the vinyl, for when I was traveling. Yes it is Minerals Power of Failing anyone who enjoys the emo genre knows when they hear those first alternating notes of Five, Eight and Ten that this is going to be an emotional roller coaster thats going to make you laugh cry and possibly resort to some form of self mutilation. This is my first review so I'm gonna do the best I can here and introduce this lovely quartet. Chris Simpson sings and plays guitar, Scott McCarver plays guitar, Jeremy Gomez plays bass and Gabriel Wiley plays drums. 80-37 is a very happy track, in comparison to the rest of the album anyway.
