The group was formed in 1976 at Kentucky State University by trumpeter Reggie Calloway, vocalist Belinda Lipscomb, guitaristdrummervocalist Melvin Gentry, bassist Kenneth Gant, multi-instrumentalist Bill Simmons, keyboard playervocalist Bo Watson and guitaristkeyboardist Jeff Cooper, as a self-contained group.
