The Mouse That Roared is a 1955 Cold War satirical novel by Irish American writer Leonard Wibberley, which launched a series of satirical books about an imaginary country in Europe called the Duchy of Grand Fenwick. Some might protest that these seven solo improvisations by cellist Matt Turner make for difficult listening - at least in one sitting - and that they are not really jazz. There is, of course, some truth to these volleys. The remarkable gems here require concerted effort and, in a sense, the participation of the listener these intense tracks are best heard a couple at a time. In this version, Dr. Kokintz is a physics professor at Columbia University and the arrival of Tully Bascomb's invasion force coincides with a campus student protest.
