Overly distorted guitars, demonic, Deicide-ish layered vocals provided by Kam Lee, and evil background sounds such as deep laughing and willowing keys provide an atmospheric boost that most raw death metal bands lack. The intro of Chamber of Ages also has an atmospheric sense to it, which adds depth to the ensuing onslaught. This is one of the best tracks on the album and showcases what is Massacre. Corpsegrinder was originally recorded by the band, Death, which all members of Massacre have been a part of in the past. Their debut album 'From Beyond' was released in 1991 but many of the tracks were written in the 80s, hence the slightly dated sound by this point, and ignoring the garish cover for a second, is a pretty apt descriptor of the early death metal sound. Opening track 'Dawn of Eternity' has, for me, a classic intro of a howling wind and tolling bell, and it instantly captures that early 90s atmosphere trying to make everything sound evil. Produced by Colin Richardson and Massacre. The album was pre-produced with Joe Cangelosi and Butch Gonzalez, but as soon as Bill Andrews and Terry Butler left Death, Digby again suggested they play on the album instead.
