Mandy and the Girlfriends were a 60's group of girls-singersinstrumentalists originating in Hull, Yorkshire. When they made the LP they were touring American army camps in Germany in 1967. The group consisted of Mandy Smithsinger, Margaret Wedgner rhythm guitar and vocals, Merle Pryorkeyboards and vocals, Hilary Morgandrums and Betty Beaumontbass guitar. They were all teenagers at that time. The LP was made in under 24 hours. Merle Pryor was the lead singer on the song Money and Mandy Smith sang Straght Shooter. The all-female line-up attracted a great deal of attention, none more so than when they toured US airbases in Germany in the mid-1960's. During their German tour they recorded an album of songs, but had also recorded in this country notably with Keith Herd of the Fairview Studios. Margaret recalls recording 12 songs in a four hour period in a room with walls covered with egg boxes to help insulate the room and provide the correct acoustic. Mandy and the Girlfriends were from Hull, England, where they formed in 1965. Mandy was Mandy Smith, who'd previously played in Mandy and the Moonrakers with her brother. Mandy's girlfriends were Hilary Morgan drums, Lesley Saxil-Neilson bass, Karen Baker guitar, Lynda Harrison vocals, and Margaret Wedgner guitar. Baker quit the group and was replaced by Merle Pryor.
