Tracks A6, B1, B3, and B4 were recorded October 30, 1963 at MBS Recording Studio, Chicago and tracks A1 to A5 and B2 were recorded February 11, 1964 at IRC Studio, Chicago under the supervision of Willie Dixon.

Tracks B5 and B6 were recorded October 3, 1969 at Royal Albert Hall, London (AFBF '69).

Magic Sam's Blues Band. He was born in Grenada County, Mississippi, and learned to play the blues from listening to records by Muddy Waters and Little Walter. After moving to Chicago at the age of 19, he was signed by Cobra Records and became well known as a bluesman after the release of his first record, All Your Love, in 1957. It is unfortunate that Magic Sam's recording career came to such an abrupt end, as he was one of the best artists working in the musical area between the urban blues tradition and newly developing soul music forms. This fusion was on the minds of many blues artists during the late '60s, and not just because it was aesthetically conceivable. It was also a matter of commerce, as audiences - particularly black audiences - didn't want to hear any blues that sounded too much like something their parents might have listened to. The musicians have obviously worked together a great deal and either had these arrangements down cold from live gigs or had plenty of time to get things tight.
