Made Out of Babies was a sludge metal band from Brooklyn, New York formed in 2004 that disbanded in 2012. Drawing equally from noise rock bands like The Jesus Lizard and post-metal bands like Isis, the band developed a following after the release of their debut album, Trophy. Their first two albums were released by Neurot Recordings, the label of post-metal and post-rock bands like Isis, Neurosis, and Red Sparowes. Made Out of Babies were signed to The End Records for the release of their 2008 album. The Ruiner is the first record that truly harnesses Christmas' range. This is because it's the first that truly harnesses Made Out of Babies' range. Due to time constraints, the band's writing process fractured, with members working individually or in small combinations. This produced their most varied, nuanced record to date. For the first time, Christmas has a backing palette with colors to match. Guitars unspool jangly curlicues drums and bass joust with the suppleness of Jesus Lizard. They are best described as a mix between noise rock band Jesus Lizard and post-metal band Isis. This, in effect, makes this band a very hard band to categorize, and I, for one, find that post-hardcore fits their music the best. Although in some songs, such as The Major, you hear a very heavy influence of grunge in the chorus, or in other epic songs such as the 7 minute Stranger, you have a song that sounds like it could go on an Isis cd.
