Thanks to the claim Peaceful Revolution , initiated by Kurt Masur as one of six prominent citizens of Leipzig, everything proceeded peacefully. Exactly 20 years later, the Gewandhausorchester and Kurt Masur commemorate the beginning of the German reunification by presenting the same symphony at the same location. The sound quality on this SACD, which can also be played on a regular CD player, is excellent for Salvatore Accardos Violin playing in both the Beethoven and Bruch Concertos. However, the sound quality for the orchestra in both Concertos is, to my ear, distant and a bit muffled. The booklet accompanying this SACD says the album presumably both Concertos was recorded at the Paul-Gerhardt Kirche in Leipzig in June, 1977. The churchs acoustics may have contributed to the Orchestras sounding distant and a bit muffled but presumably better placement of microphones could have overcome any such challenge.
