The first Lard Free record, originally released in 1973, throws in a hodgepodge of free jazz, Crimson-progressive, and other experimental elements for highly adventurous instrumental music. Often elements will be conflicting, or the music will veer into a totally different direction as the band set up one musical trap door after another. Acide Framboise is another excellent slice of psychedelic avant-rock, though the last two tracks, the soothing Liverot Respiration and the drone of the final piece, are a slight letdown. Though not as strong as the more cohesive and focused subsequent albums, Lard Free's debut still has many moments of brilliance. This fine record starts of with the 17-minute piece Spirale Malax, which kind of gives you the feeling of beeing lost in a snowstorm while on acid.
