Kuba Kapsa is a Polish pianist and composer being the leader of the avant-jazz combo Contemporary Noise Sextet 2006-2014. Beyond that he is a renowned composer for film and theater plays. His latest venture is the first of a sophisticated series of projects of modern classical music bearing the common title Vantdraught. The now appearing second part is Vantdraught 4, a quartet album written for violin, clarinetbass clarinet, trombone and piano. Last year, former Contemporary Noise Sextet member Kuba Kapsa released a note-perfect album on Denovali records named Vantdraught 10, Vol. Rather than compose a second volume for the same ten-piece ensemble, the Polish pianist has instead scaled the group back to just four members. Vantdraught 4 now has the uncomfortable task of achieving neo-classical greatness for the second time in a row with fewer musicians a scary thought if one is a spring chicken.
