It is the second overall album and first ever concept album in their discography or at least in King Diamonds solo discography, for he has been making several albums with Mercyful Fate at this time. The story revolves around a man named Jonathan La'Fey and his newlywed wife Miriam Natias as they, against the warnings expressed by seven mysterious horsemen, move in to a dark and gloomy mansion that Jonathan inherited. King Diamond's Abigail is the quintessential black metal concept album that borrows heavily from demonic and horror imagery. The opening track lays down a spooky, cold foundation with a ghostly vocal track backed by a tense violin that transports the listening back in time through a dizzying melody before coming to a gasping crescendo and exploding into the second track. Listen for the haunting story of a newlywed couple as they arrive at their inherited mansion only to be warned by a band of possibly-phantom horsemen who bid the couple, Miriam Natias and Johnathan LeFay, a cryptic but not uncertain warning that becomes a prophecy for the following tracks in the album.King Diamond brings his ever-powering and unmistakable voice and fires upon the listener's ears like a volley of cruel cannon fire. He switches between a bestial grunt and his iconic, glass-shattering and diaphragm-rupturing falsetto. He wrote each track save for "A Mansion in the Dark", "The 7th Day of July 1777", and "The Possession," the former two of which were co-written with guitarist Andy LaRocque (former member of the legendary metal act, Death), and the latter with guitarist and assistant producer Michael Denner. Unfortunately, Denner would leave the band following the release of "Abigail." This album is a must-have for metalheads, punks, and lovers of hard and theatrical music.

My only complaint about this release is they didn't choose to use the original printed inner sleeve with the band photo and lyrics, otherwise excellent sounding as always.

Awesome reissue! This pressing sounds wonderful, it is extremely clear and detailed with a nice punch to the guitars and lots of clarity especially when the solos are shredding courtesy of the amazing Andy La Rocque. Andy’s guitar work on this flawless Metal album is what really makes it one of my favorite albums ever. Not only are his leads incredible but his riffs are equally as great and are a huge reason why the songwriting here is of the highest quality of any Metal release in history. The cover artwork reproduced here is beautiful and perfect in terms of coloring, shades and definition. It doesn’t come with anything other than a one sided lyric sheet but that’s ok, the quality is just so great that it’s still a very worth while repress. I highly recommend to any fans of this album, band or Metal in general. “Music On Vinyl” is new to me but if their other albums are as good as this one then I will definitely be buying more in the future because you can’t beat great quality.

I also agree, this version sounds indeed very good and is pressed very well.

I agree that this pressing sounds fantastic! I've found other "music on vinyl" releases to be exceptionally good as well!
