Dorham's talent is frequently lauded by critics and other musicians, but he never received the kind of attention or public recognition from the jazz establishment that many of his peers did. For this reason, writer Gary Giddins said that Dorham's name has become virtually synonymous with underrated. Dorham composed the jazz standard. Dorham duets with JR Monterose on happy varied arrangements, with Dorham in his characteristic fast-stacatto mode driving the pace. I dont believe there is a Volume 2 release, and the label makes no mention of it being Volume 1, which legend appears only on the cover. Vinyl: ABC 122 ABC-Paramount Am-Par label deep groove 1956. Looks like it was the only US pressing of this recording, in 1956. The valuation is identical to Dorhams Quiet Kenny, New Jazz purple label, 1959: 80 , lucky to find it at less than thirty times that . Both sides play graded. Kenny is a prime example of a neglected jazz musician. He never achieved the fame of his contemporaries Dizzy Gillespie or Miles Davis. He labored in their shadows until his death in 1972. But his playing is as good as any other trumpeter. I notice this CD is commanding exorbitant prices on the internet now. You would be better off getting the Cafe Bohemia set for less.
