Brian Auger and the Trinity was a British band led by keyboardist Brian Auger. His duet with Julie Driscoll, the Bob Dylan-penned This Wheel's on Fire, was a number 5 hit on the 1968 UK Singles Chart. The song also reached number 13 in Canada. Their joint album, Open, billed as Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger and the Trinity, reached number 12 in the UK Albums Chart the same year. The group and Driscoll opened for Led Zeppelin at the Rose Palace in Pasadena, California on 2 and 3 May 1969. The final collaboration between singer Julie Driscoll by that time dubbed as The Face by the British music weeklies and Brian Auger's Trinity was 1969's Streetnoise - it was an association that had begun in 1966 with Steampacket, a band that also featured Rod Stewart and Long John Baldry. A double album featuring 16 tracks, more than half with vocals by Driscoll, the rest absolutely burning instrumentals by Trinity. Driscoll enters next with Czechoslovakia, a wide-open modal tune that hints at the kinds of music she would explore in the very near future on her debut 1969 and later, with future husband Keith Tippett. Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & The Trinity. Rick Danko, Bob Dylan. Brian Auger inhabits a unique position within British music. Essentially a highly regarded and talented modern jazz musician, he paid the critical price for crossing over into the pop charts, and eventually migrated to America where he felt his wide-ranging approach would be better understood and appreciated. Driscoll a fellow refugee from Auger's previous 60s supergroup The Steampacket carved out a highly individual style, proving that she was undoubtedly the only British, white singer who had the skill and ability to bring the necessary gravitas to covers of US soul, like Aretha's ''Save Me''. Definitely What . Has anyone ever heard or heard of The Brian Auger Trinity Well, this is a rather jazzy organ trio from England in the 60's. But this album is a different pace for them as their chanteuse, Julie Driscoll, is one sultry songstress. The two opening tracks, instrumentals with fine guitar and organ work are completely worth the cost of the CD. Completely infectious music. Rest of the CD is a mixture of sly delivery Julie Driscoll with Season of the Witch, romp-it-up whoopers Black Cat, lovely keyboard playing by Brian Auger, and other material I'm less fond of. Good good record. Read more
