My Goal's Beyond is the third solo album after Extrapolation and Devotion by John McLaughlin. The album was originally released in 1971 on Douglas Records in the US. It was later reissued by DouglasCasablanca 1976, ElektraMusician 1982, and in 1987 by Rykodisc on CD and LP. This album marks the first chronological major stylistic change from McLaughlin, apart from his move to an acoustic guitar. The music is strongly influenced by music of India, and was dedicated to McLaughlin's spiritual. My Goal's Beyond - John McLaughlin. In my opinion, John has achieved some of his greatest artistic heights back when he was still a student of the renowned ambiguous guru. I read a review saying that My Goals Beyond should be listened to at least once per month. I have done so since the early 70s. What a fine desert island album.
