Red Cross is an album by American fingerstyle guitarist and composer John Fahey, released posthumously in 2003. The Revenant Records catalog refers to the album's title as Red Cross Disciple of Christ Today. Red Cross was Fahey's last album, recorded a few months before his death in February 2001. The album was intended for release in 2001 but was delayed due to Fahey's declining health. The title was derived from a sermon recorded in 1928 by Rev. Moses Mason titled Red Cross Disciple of Christ Today. The song Red Cross Disciple of Christ Today off of the album of the same Fahey Red Cross Condition: Good. Intended for release in 2001 but met with delays following his ill health and eventual death, Red Cross bookends an important discography, to say the least. In a manner perhaps typical of Fahey, this collection of self-produced pieces ends his career on a note both simple and probing. Ultimately, though, the prevailing tone is one of peaceful resolution and it is this feeling above all others that lends this session its haunting beauty. John Aloysius Fahey February 28, 1939 February 22, 2001 was an American fingerstyle guitarist and composer who played the steel-string acoustic guitar as a solo instrument. His style has been greatly influential and has been described as the foundation of American Primitive Guitar, a term borrowed from painting and referring mainly to the self-taught nature of the music and its minimalist style. Fahey borrowed from the folk and blues traditions in American roots music, having compiled many forgotten early recordings in these genres. Red Cross, 2003. John Fahey. Remember, 04:41. I don't understand the purpose of this, and I question the accuracy. My understanding is that the numbered edition was the first pressing. What evidence do you have that the un-numbered edition was the first pressing? The un-numbered edition was in a normal chipboard sleeve, but the numbered one was different. It was more of a fold-out. I've owned both. Both were identical except for the outer sleeve. The numbered one featured a fold-over flap with the handwritten edition number.
