Gott fähret auf mit Jauchzen God goes up with jubilation or God has gone up with a shout, BWV 43, is a church cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach. He composed it in Leipzig for the Feast of the Ascension and first performed it on 30 May 1726. It begins with a quotation from Psalm 47. Bach composed the cantata in his third year in Leipzig for the feast of Ascension. The prescribed readings for the feast day were from the Acts of the Apostles, the prologue and Ascension Acts 1:111, and from the. Home Conductors Suzuki, Masaaki J. Bach - Cantatas, BWV 146, 88, 43. The two cantatas BWV 146 and 43 were composed for Jubilate Sunday and for Ascension Day respectively, both of them joyous occasions celebrating Christs resurrection and subsequent ascension into heaven. In BWV 43 the aspect of celebration is obvious in a scoring that includes trumpets and timpani, lending splendour and emphasis to the jubilant opening, a complex choral fugue.
