I Had to Fall in Love was the only solo album released by former Supremes lead singer Jean Terrell, released in 1978 on the A&M label. The album was completed five years after she left the Supremes and when it was finished, promotion was stopped completely because of Terrell's strict religious beliefs that prevented her from promoting the album in a way that she did not favor. This album is great. Jean Terrell is able to present some vocal strengths, missing from her Supremes days, where many of her vocal effects were discouraged, according to Mary Wilson. The title track, also a single release, is a very melodic love song, which sets the stage for the theme of this album. The one major exception, and probably the best track on the album is Don't Stop Reaching for the Top, where she lets her vocal range shine. Jean can open her voice like few in the business, and she does it here. I also absolutely love this solo album of jean. Her vocals are so wonderful.
