Gettin' Down to It is the 24th studio album by American musician James Brown. The album was released in May 1969, by King Records. A pet project of Brown's, the album consists of standards sung in the jazz ballad style of Frank Sinatra, whom Brown greatly admired. In addition, two of Brown's own compositions, Cold Sweat and an instrumental version of There Was a Time, are included, reinterpreted in the same style. James Brown recorded the pet project Gettin' Down to It in Cincinnati, OH, at King Studios, between December 1968 and March 1969. Although you can't tell by the album's title, it reflects Soul Brother Number One momentarily stepping back from the fiery racial and political atmosphere of the times. Following the murder of Martin Luther King, Jr. the riots sparked by that event, and his calming effect on it, Mr. Dynamite replaced Say It Loud I'm Black and I'm Proud with his love of standards utilizing the melancholy phrasing of his favorite male vocalist,. This James Brown CD titled Getting' Down to It is good and includes his unexpected version of the standard Sunny. This is a very different album: more jazzy and much less funk. But instead, one should check the 2 CD set it is a UK import, at a similar price. Just type ASIN: B003E4FLT4 It is a 2 for 1 set combining the Sex Machine album with Getting' Down to It.
