At first glance it might appear that Jack DeJohnettes Music We Are is simply a jazz piano trio recording, albeit one that has a compelling lineup since the other players include pianist Danilo Perez and bassist John Patitucci. That said, appearances can be, and in this case are certainly, deceiving. feat: John Patitucci, Danilo Pérez. Music We Are is an album by Jack DeJohnette recorded in 2008 and released on his Golden Beams label. It was obviously a blast to record it as well. Line-up, Musicians. Music on this album generally is classic piano jazz trio recording. DeJohnette's collaborators Perez and Patitucci both are members of Wayne Shorter's quartet. Sound is acousticelectric, and in all cases modern enough to sound fresh. There are enough space for improvisations as well. Last to date Jack DeJohnette studio album isn't innovative and surprising, but it is quite fresh and pleasant by trio with bassist John Patitucci and pianist Danilo Perez,it contains quality music,mixed of Latin jazz, some African rhythms,post-bop with few quite free improvs and soulful contemporary jazz. The DeJohnettePatitucciPerez trio made its formal premiere at the 2005 Panama Jazz Festival, where Danilo still presides as its artistic director. We did two concerts in Panama that year, Perez recalls, and we left with the feeling of, Yeah. Music We Are is an album mixed of strictly composed pieces organically developed, like DeJohnette's Tango African and Perez's White, and spacious, collective improvisations Earth Prayer and Earth Speaks. The degree of confidence and trust in this trio is really incredible, adds Perez.
