Iva Bittová born 22 July 1958 is a Czech avant-garde violinist, singer, and composer. She began her career as an actor in the mid-1970s, appearing in several Czech feature films, but switched to playing violin and singing in the early 1980s. She started recording in 1986 and by 1990 her unique vocal and instrumental technique gained her international recognition. Since then, she has performed regularly throughout Europe, the United States and Japan, and has released over eight solo albums. The album follows a thoughtful and well-conceived trajectory, with Bittová's shouting, babbling, and skittering vocals making an early entrance on Malíri V Parízi Painters in Paris but seeming to slide gracefully into a mature beauty before the listener's ears as the album progresses, although she never completely abandons her childlike playful qualities. This took place after the management of this temple of culture was captured by Iva Bittová in the role of Donna Elvira in the opera Don Giovanni. On Friday 29 April 2005 Iva Bittová and Bang On a Can presented this piece at a joint performance in the Carnegie Hall in New York.
