Information Society is the debut studio album by American synth-pop band Information Society. It was released on June 21, 1988, by Tommy Boy Records and Reprise Records. It was the band's first release under a major label, after two independently released extended plays. The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America RIAA on December 6, 1988, denoting shipments in excess of 500,000 copies in the United States. It was the least successful of the three albums released by Tommy BoyReprise and was the last Tommy Boy title to be distributed by major-label channels WEA in this case, although Warner Bros. Peace and Love, Inc. finds Information Society embracing the harsher techno-rave sound that was developing in the early 90's, while keeping the melodic instincts that made the band a pop success story. The new sound suits them well. This is the hardest hitting track on the album, with the rest of the songs being closer in spirit, if not style, to the band's earlier material than the rather jarring title song.
